We have a roof! I could not remember what the shingles looked like, but I was more than pleased with the color when I saw it. All of our tubs and showers were delivered as well, presumably in anticipation for the plumber that is coming this week.
I would like to add a disclaimer and some helpful things to keep in mind. First of all, it should be noted that all of my advice given is based on the understanding we have with HiLine. HiLine can and may change their contracts with future customers, so be sure to refer to your specific contract for responsibilities, timelines, etc.
With that said, we have the responsibility for debris clean up. I mentioned the trailer in the last post. Well, we ended up purchasing a used trailer and it has come in very handy! We were not expecting to haul off as much debris as there has been. So far it has been 3000lbs and there is still a good bit left. We are building during rainy season, so the wood has been quite wet, which has certainly added to the weight.
I would also advise purchasing a magnetic sweeper! There are A LOT of nails on the property. At first I was quite upset about this. Coincidentally, we then run into a random roofer as we are dropping off debris at the dump. He struck a short conversation with my husband and actually shared that the General Contractor is responsible for nail clean up. In our case, the General Contractor is basically us.
You may have noticed that initially we expected shingles to be done the first week in January. I should say, we tentatively expected it. This obviously did not quite happen and we are a bit behind schedule for various reasons. At this point we are anticipating the end of March instead of mid-March. All in all, that is still within a reasonable timeline we anticipated. In fact, mid-March was the surprising, super-fast date.
