While the land clearing and back-filling was going on, we started calling around for septic quotes.
A little background story which shows just how great God has been to us! Due to the slope behind the house, our grading cost was 2k over the initial quote. We do have a contingency, but that contingency is also the financial resource to upgrade the flooring. We do not think HiLine's basic flooring is a prudent choice for the wear and tear our family puts on houses, so we were hoping to upgrade.
Anyhow, we only had 7.5k left for the septic installation and permit. It should be noted here, we have the most BASIC septic system one can have and the best dirt our septic designer has seen in quite some time. It was perced six times and all of the percs were excellent. The estimate for installation was 6-8k.
The first quotes we got back were 10k-12k :O!!! The next ones weren't much better at around 9k. This would have eaten up our contingency....Interestingly, my husband and I weren't worried in the least, just a little shocked. We continued to call around and finally we get a quote for 4.5k!!! This is not only within the budget, but makes up for the extra grading cost we had! Deo Gratias! We did receive confirmation that this is a reputable installer. :)
As you may remember, we were not very pleased with our septic designer due to the delay he caused. He does have a great reputation though among all the excavators and septic installers. I am going to just hope that he was extremely swamped this summer with the amount of building projects going on. This time around he has been responsive via phone and e-mail, which is relieving since he will need to do our as-built inspection.
